Obituary of Margaret Jean (Cook) McDonald

Margaret “Jean” (Cook) McDonald, 83, of Peabody, died early Saturday at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers with her family at her side. She was the devoted wife of the late John B. “Jack” Mc Donald. She was born in Peabody on November 6, 1928, the daughter of the late William and Mary (Hindley) Cook and was raised, educated and resided here all her life. Jean was first employed as a bookkeeper at the former Curtis Drug Store inPeabody. She late worked as a keypunch operator at the General Electric Co. inLynnfor over 10 years prior to her retirement. She loved to read and enjoyed travelling. Jean suffered a stroke almost 40 years ago but was able to care and nurture her grandchildren whom she adored. She was a long time parishioner of St. John the Baptist Church of Peabody. She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Paul and Lee McDonald of Peabody, Brian and Quiok McDonald of South Korea and Neal and Jackie McDonald of Beverly, four daughters and sons-in-law, Jeanette and George Mandragouras and Linda and Paul White all of Peabody, Susan and Scott Gaudet of East Wakefield, NH and Nancy and Dan Flynn of Framingham, MA, two brothers, Ronald T. Cook of Peabody and Robert Gordon Cook of No. Ft.Myers, Fl, a sister, Arlene Durgin of Peabodyand No.Ft.Myers,FL, 14 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Charley Roy Cook. A Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 82 Lynn St., Peabodyfacility. Her funeral will be held on Wednesday at 10:00 AM from the Funeral Home followed by a Funeral Mass in St. John the Baptist Church, 16 Church St., Peabody at 11:00 AM.
