Obituary of Eric R. Roberts

Eric R. Bob Roberts, 84, of Peabody, died Saturday evening at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers after a brief illness. He was the husband of Alice P. (Stone) Roberts with whom he shared 56 years of marriage. He was born in Canso, Nova Scotia, Canada on May 28, 1921, the son of the late Arthur and Martha (Hurst) Roberts; he was one of ten children and was raised there before moving to Peabody 52 years ago. He served in Europe during WW 11with the 17th Duke Yorks Royal Canadian Hussars of the 7th Armored Reconnaissance Regiment 3rd of the Royal Canadian Army. He was trained as a Wireless radio operator and participated in scouting operations throughout Belgium, Holland and participated in the D-Day invasion on June 6, 1944 in Normandy, France. Following his discharge, he settled in St. John, New Brunswick, Canada working as a Hydro Power lineman. He later moved to Somerville, Ma doing contract work with the George Ellis Co. for Edison and Cambridge Light. He later moved to Peabody and became a lineman for the Peabody Municipal Light Plant for 23 years prior to his retirement as Line crew foreman 22 years ago. He liked to Travel and enjoyed watching the Bruins and Red Sox games on Television. He also liked relaxing in his backyard and being with his family. Surviving him besides his wife are a son, Gordon E. Roberts and a daughter, Marilyn A. Roberts both of Peabody, a brother Ansely Roberts of Truro, NS Canada and several nieces and nephews. A Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 20 Church St. Peabody facility. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday at 11:00 AM at St. Paul’ s Episcopal Church, 16 Washington St. Peabody. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody. Expressions of sympathy may be made to Hospice of the North Shore, 10 Elm St., Danvers, MA 01923.
