Obituary of Stanley W Potember
Stanley W. Potember, 91, of Peabody, died Saturday afternoon at the Rosewood Nursing Home following a brief illness. He was the devoted husband of Mary (Owirka) Potember with whom he shared over 60 years of marriage.
Born in Arlington, he was the son of the late Isador and Elenor (Lankowski) Potember. He grew up in Cambridge and spent the last fifty years living in Peabody.
Stanley was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He was a patriot who served in the CCC Camp at Elbert,CO before he enlisted with the United States Army during World War II. While in the army, he served as a mechanic in North Africa and Italy. After the war, Stanley worked at RC Cola and Pepsi bottling plants as a mechanic and foreman as well as jack-of-all-trades. After his retirement, he enjoyed woodworking and home repair.
Besides his loving wife, he is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Susan Potember of Maryland, and James and Donna Potember of South Boston, a daughter, Janice Maloney of Weston and six grandchildren. He was predeceased by 12 brothers and sisters.
His funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 9:00 AM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM at St. Adelaide’s Church, Lowell St., Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM. Burial will be in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody.
