Margaret M. “Maggie” (Hoban) Roy
PEABODY—Margaret M. “Maggie” (Hoban) Roy, 93, beloved wife of the late George Roy, died Monday September 10, 2012 at the Devereaux House Nursing Home in Marblehead following a long illness.
Born in Salem, she was the daughter of the late Patrick and Ann (Manning) Hoban. She graduated from Peabody High School, Class of 1936, then studied nursing at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Boston. She was a lifelong resident of the city.
Mrs. Roy was a Registered Nurse with St. Elizabeth’s Hospital for many years, then retired in 1981 after several years at the Jewish Rehab Center in Swampscott.
Maggie was very active at the Peabody Council on Aging and the Peter Torigian Community Life Center. She enjoyed painting, Beano, traveling, and doing crochet.
She is survived by a son Edward D. & his wife Linda Marie Roy of Peabody; two daughters, Margaret “Peggy” & her husband Buddy Poirier of TN and Patricia “Pat” Ottati of Epsom, NH, and an adopted son Mark Sampsonis of Shrewsbury; eight grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death, besides her husband and parents, by a daughter Mary Carson, brothers Francis “Pat” Hogan, John Hoban, and sisters Mary Nigro, and Eleanor Meehan.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to gather on Thursday September 13, 2012 at 9 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 AM in St. Ann’s Church, Peabody. A visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4 – 7 P.M. in the funeral home. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody.
