Obituary of Mary (Stamation) Febonio

o Danvers, Mass.- Mary Febonio, beloved mother and grandmother, died peacefully surrounded by her children and grandchildren on Sunday, September 9 at Beverly Hospital. She was 84 years old. Mary was the fourth of six Stamation children — George, Irene, Lena, Ismene, and Connie. George was killed in World War II, and the sisters each married and raised families in the North Shore area. Mary spent most of her life working at the Century House Restaurant, which was owned by her late sister Irene Diskes. She married the late George Febonio in 1951, and had two children, George and Lucia, who each had three children. She loved boating, swimming, ice-skating, and gardening, but most of all, she loved to entertain her friends and family. Mary was known for her pool parties in the summer and her Christmas Eve parties in the winter. Everyone always gathered at Mary’s house and she made all who walked in the door feel welcome. She was very devoted to her family, especially her six grandchildren. So much so, that everyone called her Yia Yia. Mary was born on June 7, 1928 and raised in Peabody by the late Nicholas and Evangeline Stamation, who emmigrated from Samos Greece. She graduated from Peabody High School in 1947, and then worked in Sylvania for several years before she married. Mary is survived by her son George Febonio, his children Molly, Maggie and Lisa, Maggie’s husband Justin Eveleth, daughter Lucia Webb and husband James Webb, their children Nicole, Christina and James, sister Ismene Dukas, brother-in-laws Kemon Dukas, Angelo Metaxatos, and Edward Ferris, and sister-in-law Sandra Febonio, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. Arrangements A visitation will be held on Thursday at Conway Cahill-Broder Funeral Home at the 82 Lynn Street, Peabody facility from 4-8 pm. Her funeral will be held Friday at 11:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Salem.
