Urania “Rena” (Papademetriou) Meniates
Lynnfield--Urania “Rena” (Papademetriou) Meniates, 83, beloved wife of the late James Meniates, Sr., passed away peacefully on Monday September 10, 2012 at the Rosewood Skilled Nursing & Rehab Center in Peabody, while in the comforting presence of her family.
Born in St. Peter, Kinouria, Greece, she was the daughter of Panagiotis and Panagiota (Beldekou) Papademetriou and lived there in her youth. She came to the United States in 1947, met her husband Jim and stayed in the North Shore area, living in Lynn, Peabody, Beverly, and Lynnfield. Along with her husband she spent much time living in Naples, FL where she also was very active in the community with the church and social friends.
As a dedicated wife and mother, she helped her husband in the Leather Tanning business, Richard Leather in Salem. She was also a very dedicated homemaker, nurturing her family, as well as always organizing social gatherings for friends and family.
Rena was very active at St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Curch in Peabody, and also St. Katherine’s in Naples, FL. She was a member of the Philoptohos Society of Peabody and in Naples, FL. She will be remembered for her generosity and care-giving for her family here and in Greece, as well as those who could use help in the Greater Peabody community.
She is survived by her daughter Eugenia “Jeanne” & her husband Leo Zisis of Lynnfield and a son, James & his wife Gail E. Meniates, Jr. of Danvers; five grandchildren, John J. Zisis, Nicole Renee Zisis Sylvestre, James G. Meniates, Paul A. Meniates, and Katina J. Meniates; a sister, Mary Brusalis of Lynnfield, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death, besides her parents and husband, by six other siblings in Greece and the United States.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to gather on Monday September 17, 2012 at 9 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, followed by a Funeral Service at 10 AM in St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church, Peabody. A visitation will be held on Sunday from 4 – 8 P.M. in the funeral home. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody. Memorial donations may be made to the St. Vasilios Bell Tower Restoration, c/o 7 Paleologos St., Peabody, MA 01960.
