Obituary of Joan D (Kavanaugh) Lane

Joan D. (Kavanaugh) Lane Gloucester--Joan D. (Kavanaugh) Lane, 76, fomerly of Peabody, passed away peacefully with her sons at her side, on Wednesday morning, September 12, 2012, at Masconomet Healthcare Center. Born in Peabody on June 27, 1936, she was the beloved daughter of the late Edmund and Margaret (MacKee) Kavanaugh. Joan was a graduate of the Peabody High School, Class of 1953, where she was the proud recipient of the George Peabody Award for Academic Excellence. At her 50th class reunion, she was presented an award recognizing her courageous battle with Multiple Sclerosis. In spite ofher illness of forty eight years, she was always upbeat with a positive attitude and will be remembered as always having an infectious smile on her face. Her hope, faith, loving family, friends from the Lynn Indoor Sports Club as well as the Peabody House, and lifelong high school friends from “The Club” gave her the strength to do the things that she could still do, rather than dwell on what had been taken away. She is survived by three sons and two daughters-in-law, Bruce R. and M. Theresa (Rossi) Lane of Casco, Maine, Paul L. and Sharon (Carignan) Lane of Sterling, and David R. Lane of Danvers; five grandchildren, Stephanie K., wife of Andrew Sussman, Kimberly N. Lane, fiancée of Timothy Leazott, Joni T. Lane, Jonathan E. Lane, and Nikki J. Lane; a great-grandson Nathaniel M. Sussman; her sister-in-law, Sandra Lane and her brother, Edmund. She was also predeceased by her granddaughter, Gina Michelle Lane and her husband Laurence R. Lane. Her funeral service will be held on Saturday in the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn Street, Peabody, at noon. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 10:30 to noon. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. Interment will be held in the Cedar Grove Cemetery. The family wishes that in lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in Joan’s memory to the South Congregational Church, 60 Prospect St., Peabody, MA 01960, whose ministry supported and remembered her throughout her entire life.
