Obituary of Norman P. Wills

Norman P. Wills, 81, of Peabody and formerly of Lynnfield, died Saturday evening at the Pilgrim Nursing Center following a brief illness. He was the devoted husband of Helen (Hishta) Wills with whom he shared over 56 years of marriage. Born in Worcester, he was the son of the late Norman and M. Aline (Bye) Wills. He was raised and educated in Worcester and was a graduate of South High School, class of 1941. He was a veteran of World War II, who served with the United States Army from 1943 until 1946. After the War, he attended Syracuse University and received his Degree in Mechanical Engineering and a Master’ s in Business Administration in 1951. He worked for over 25 years at the General Electric River Works Plant in Lynn as a mechanical engineer on jet engines and testing. He was a member of the society of American Manufacturing of Engineers, and also enjoyed golfing and was a former member and club champion of the Thompson Country Club in North Reading in the late 1960’ s and early 1970’ s. Mr. Wills was also a longtime member of the Centre Congregational Church in Lynnfield. Besides his loving wife, he is survived by a son, Doug Wills of Malden, a daughter and son-in-law, Charlotte Wills-Brooks and her husband Wendell Brooks of Katy, Texas, two brothers and sisters-in-law, David and Evelyn Wills of Auburn, and Robert and Miriam Wills of Melbourne, Fla, two grandchildren, Allison and Steven Brooks of Texas and is also survived by several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Patricia Phelps. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the staffs of Sunrise at Gardner Park, Peabody and to Hospice of the North Shore. Your love, care and encouragement were a great comfort to Norman and to the entire family. A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday at 10:30 AM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 12 Chestnut St., Peabody Facility to which relatives and friends are invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to either the Hospice of the North Shore, 10 Elm St., Danvers, MA 01923 or the Alzheimer’ s Assoc., 311 Arsenal St., Watertown, MA 02472.
