Obituary of Alphonse Adam Batakis

At his home with his wife Josephine (Gabalis) and his family by his side, Alphonse Batakis passed away on Thursday, September 13, 2012 after a long illness from a stroke suffered in 2001. Alphonse was born December 24, 1921 in Brockton MA to Alexander and Kazimiera Batakis. He is pre-deceased by his brothers Alexander and Adam Batakis. He graduated from Brockton High in 1940. He later went on to serve his country as a member of the 71st Army Air Force Flying Training Detachment during WW 11. After the war, he went to work for American Airlines as a mechanic until his retirement in 1983. He settled in Peabody in 1953 where he built his own home and where he raised his family. He is survived by his wife, Josephine, his four children, Paul and his wife Margaret Batakis, John and his wife Tracey Batakis, Alan and his wife Sandra Batakis, Christine Batakis Carroll and her companion Michael Goodwin. Also nine grandchildren, Christopher, Michael, Steven, Alexis, Ashley and Samantha Batakis and Matthew, Julie and Meaghan Carroll. He was amazingly generous with his time and his “fix-it” skills and was always available to lend a helping hand. A Visitation will be held on Monday from 4:00 until 7:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 82 Lynn St., Peabody facility. His funeral will be held on Tuesday at 9:00 AM from the funeral home followed by a Funeral Mass in St .Adelaide’s Church, 708 Lowell St., West Peabody at 10:00 AM.
