Obituary of Elizabeth (Wood) Humphrey

Elizabeth (Wood) Humphrey, 96, of Peabody, died Thursday morning at the Renaissance Gardens at Brooksby Village following a brief illness. She was the devoted wife of Ellsworth Humphrey with whom she shared over 71 years of marriage. Born in Lynn, she was the daughter of the late Harold and Selma Wood. She was raised and educated in Rockport and was a member of the graduating class of 1934 where she served as president of her class. Upon marrying her husband Ellsworth, she moved to Marblehead where she lived for over 35 years. She also lived in Salem, Swampscott and for the past 13 years, she has lived in Peabody. Elizabethworked for the state as a supervisor at the state house for unemployment security before she retired many years ago. She was a long time member of St. Michael’s Church in Marblehead where she served as a reader and was a member of the St. Michael’s Guild as well. Besides her loving husband of 71 years, she is survived by several nieces and nephews and was predeceased by her brother Bill Wood. Her Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday at 11:30 AM at the Brooksby Village Chapel, 100 Brooksby Village Drive, Peabody, followed by a gathering at the dinning room at Brooksby Village to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Her burial will take place on Thursday at 12:00 PM at Waterside Cemetery in Marblehead. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Benevolent Fund at Brooksby Village, 102 Brooksby Village Drive, Peabody, MA01960 in honor of Elizabeth Humphrey.
