Obituary of Leonidas Tsionis

Leonidas Tsionis, 90, of Peabody, passed away peacefully Saturday morning at his home surrounded by his family following a brief illness. He was the devoted husband of the late Annie “Evgenia” (Scarmoutzos) Tsionis. Born in Peabody, he was the son of the late Arthur and Mary (Macropoulos) Tsionis. He was raised and educated in Greece before returning to Peabody in 1946. Leonidas was a leather worker for the AC Lawrence Company in Peabody until its closing. After the closing of the leather factory, Leo worked independently until he retired. Leo was a member of St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church and a member of the St. Vasilios Men’s Club, AHEPA and the Kalamata Society as well. He loved to spend time with his grandchildren and enjoyed traveling to Greece. Leo was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather and will be dearly missed by all those who knew him and loved him including his son Arthur Tsionis of Peabody, his two daughters, Marylou and her husband John Sambatakos of Lynnfield and Charlene and her husband Pirro Deftos of Amesbury, his two brothers, Charles Tsonis of Greece and James Tsonis of Peabody, and his sister, Despina Drougas of Peabody. He is also survived by his beloved grandchildren, Tanya, Peter, Jennifer, Nicholas, and Rena, and his Goddaughter, Stephanie as well as many nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday September 27 from 4:00 until 8:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. His Funeral Service will be on Friday September 28 at 10:00 AM at St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church, Paleologos St. Peabody. Burial in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody.
