Obituary of Eleni "Helen" (Raftopoulos) Siopis

Eleni “Helen” (Raftopoulos) Siopis Eleni “Helen" (Raftopoulos) Siopis, 88, passed away Tuesday September 25, 2012 at the Peabody Glen Nursing Home in Peabody, while surrounded by her family and comforted by their presence. Born in Greece, she was raised by her mother Elisavet Raftopoulos. She married her first husband Pavlos Tsalaparas at the age of 16, and he was killed in the Civil War of 1944. His gift to her was her devoted daughter Barbara Lazarides of Peabody. Helen married her second husband, Ilias Siopis with whom she shared 35 wonderful years together and tended to the field as a Farmer while he was a Shepherd in Greece. She lived in the United States a short time and returned to Greece, and returned to live in Peabody for the last 20 years. She was a member of the Philiptochos Athena of Peabody. Mrs. Siopis is survived by her daughter Barbara Lazarides of Peabody, three sons Stefanos Siopis & his wife Vicki, George Siopis & his wife Debbie, and Argyris “Eddie” Siopis & his wife Kassiani, all of Peabody; two daughters, Nitsa Kotsali & her husband Yannis of Greece and Katina Siopis of Peabody; 11 grandchildren, Sophia Koziski & her husband Steven, Ilias Siopis and George Siopis all of Peabody, Virginia Saulnier of Beverly, George Siopis and Steve Siopis both of Peabody, Ilias and Michalie Siopis of Greece, Ilias Siopis, Jiannis Siopis, and Kostas Siopis all of Peabody; five great-grandchildren who were the treasures of her life, Jeremy Saulnier of Beverly, Lecadya Koziski of Peabody, Elaina Lazarides of Beverly, Steven “Buddy” Koziski of Peabody, and Brittney Lazarides of Beverly, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her two husbands, and Helen will be joining her two angels in heaven, her grandsons Paul Lazarides of Beverly and Thoma Kotsalis of Greece. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to gather on Friday September 28, 2012 at 11 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, followed by her Funeral Service at 12 Noon in St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church, Paleologos St., Peabody. A visitation will be held today (Thursday) from 4 – 8 P.M. Burial in Harmony Grove Cemetery, Salem.
