Obituary of Frances E (Smola) Prokop

Frances E (Smola) Prokop, 92, of Salem and formerly of Springfield, died Tuesday morning at the Masconomet Health Care Center in Topsfield following a brief illness. She was the beloved wife of the late Edward Prokop. Born in Indian Orchard, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Kathryn (Seweryn) Smola. She was raised and educated in Springfield and was a graduate of Commerce High School. Frances worked in distribution sales for the Dow Jones in Chicopee for over 20 years before she retired. Frances enjoyed cooking, reading, quilting, arts and crafts and later enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and sharing in all of their endeavors. She is survived by her two daughters and sons-in-law, Theresa and Stanley Graczyk of Peabody and Kathleen and Edward McCarthy ofSalem, her four grandsons, Christopher and Brian McCarthy and Robert and Michael Webb, and also by five great grandchildren, Abigail Webb, Kieran, Kaegen, Brynnleigh and Cameron McCarthy. She was pre deceased by seven brothers and sisters. A Visitation will be held on Saturday from 9:00 until 9:30 AM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM at. St. Thomas the Apostle Church, Margin St. Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to the MGH/North Shore Cancer Center, 102 Endicott Street, Danvers, MA01923.
