Obituary of Rose Marie (Domingos) (Devaney) Skelley
Rose Marie (Domingos) (Devaney) Skelley
PEABODY—Rose Marie (Domingos) (Devaney) Skelley, 83, passed away peacefully on Saturday October 13, 2012 at the Twin Oaks Nursing Home in Danvers while in the comforting presence and surrounded by loved ones, after a long illness.
Born in Peabody on April 9, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Sancho and Mary (Figuerado) Domingos. In her early years and into her teens, she lived on the family farm on the Old Route 1. In those days it was a common chore for Rose and her sister Evelyn to fill jugs of fresh water from their neighbor before riding their bikes to school. At that time an automobile on Route 1 was a rare sight!
Rose had a special gift in which anyone being introduced to her would instantly feel comforted by her warm smile and gentle greeting. She always seemed to bring out the best in anybody lucky enough to cross her path.
Her family eventually moved to a brand new home on Lynnfield St., and Rose graduated from Peabody High School, Class of 1947. She was married soon after to the late Everett Devaney and would raise five children with him.
Over the years Rose worked at several different local companies. Kondon’s Drug Store was one early employer, where she was likely one of the last people to work at the soda fountain, creating such classics as root-beer floats, Lime Rickies, and hand-made banana splits. She also was employed by Sylvania Lighting, and was mostly a Sales Clerk with Almy’s Department Store, where she was one of their last employees prior to its closure.
Rose moved on to join loved ones who passed before her, such as her loving late husband Edward Skelley, her daughter Rosemarie (Devaney) McIntosh, and her parents. However her generous and loving nature will surely be missed by her surviving family including sons Everett & his wife Diane Devaney of Clifton, NJ, Dennis Devaney of Norridgewock, ME and Kenneth Devaney of Peabody; daughter Nancy & her husband William Taglieri of Peabody; nine grandchildren, Julie & her husband Richard Shailor of Foxboro, David & his wife Kristen Taglieri of Peabody, Michael & his wife Stefanie Taglieri of Saugus, Katie & her husband Scott Sugarman of Holliston, Meghan Devaney, Maura Devaney both of Boston, John Devaney of Philadelphia, PA, Derek Devaney and Danielle Devaney both of Norridgewock, ME; four great-grandchildren, Ashley & Alyssa Shailor, Hannah Sugarman, and Kayla Taglieri; a sister, Evelyn & her husband Joseph Griffin of Peabody, and several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to gather on Thursday October 18, 2012 at 9:30 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:30 AM in St. Ann’s Church, Peabody. A visitation will be held on Wednesday from 5 – 8 P.M. in the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of the North Shore & Greater Boston, 75 Sylvan St., Suite B-102, Danvers, MA 01923.
