Obituary of Voula Diamantis

Voula Diamantis, 77, of Salem, died on Wednesday, October 31, 2012 at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. Voula was born in Athens Greece on August 29, 1935, the daughter of the late Demitrios and Vasiliki (Kallas) Diamantis. She was raised and educated in Greece and also attended seamstress school for 4 years. She immigrated to the United States in 1957 making her home in Peabody, moving to Salem in 1973. Voula was employed for 42 years as an assembler at GTE Sylvania on Loring Ave. in Salem. As an accomplished seamstress many will remember her from L.H. Rogers in Salem, at Liz Claiborne and most recently at the Chanel Boutique on Newbury St. both in Boston. Voula devoted much of her time to her loving nieces and nephews. She was a member of St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church in Peabody, enjoyed sewing, cooking and traveling with her family. Voula was predeceased by her cherished son Peter Panagopoulos in 1967. She is survived by her siblings and their spouses, Theodore Diamond with whom she resided in Salem, Mina and Steve Kappa of Saugus, Leo and Denise Diamantis, Theodore Diamantis, Maria Diamantis, and Ellen and Nick Karagiorgas all of Athens, Greece; her nieces, nephews and their spouses, Marina and Daniel Greeke of Middleton, Valerie Kappa of Saugus, James and Laurie Karagiorgas, and Mario and Maria Karagiorgas all of Greece. Her funeral will be held on Tuesday, November 6, 2012 at 8:30 a.m. from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody followed by a service at 9:30 a.m. at St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church, 5 Paleologos St., Peabody. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visiting hours are Monday, November 5, 2012 from 4 to 7 p.m. Burial in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody. Memorial contributions may be made in Voula’s memory to St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church Bell Tower Restoration Fund, 5 Paleologos St., Peabody, MA 01960.
