Obituary of Edward J. O'Connell

Edward J. O’Connell PEABODY—Edward J. O’Connell, 86, beloved husband of the late Rita (White) O’Connell, died peacefully in his sleep on Saturday evening November 10, 2012, following a long illness. Born in Everett, he was the son of the late Edward and Rosella (Stack) O’Connell. He grew up in both Everett and in Seattle, WA. He graduated from Everett High School while he was serving a patriotic duty in the United States Navy. Mr. O’Connell was a Foreman with Raytheon with 31 years of service before retiring 23 years ago. Ed moved to Peabody, and was one of the founding parishioners of St. Adelaide’s Church. Ed was a man with a very devoted faith, and was quite active with many of the ministries of the parish. He organized and enjoyed Bingo, the Couples Club, and often seen serving as an Usher at 4 PM Mass on Saturdays, doing what he could for the community of St. Adelaide’s together with his wife Rita who served as the Parish Secretary. He was a passionate outdoorsman and avid fisherman. He was a member of the Danvers Fish and Game Club, and enjoyed several hobbies such as bowling, metal detecting, gardening, cross word puzzles, trivia, taking in Fourth of July Fireworks, the Boston Red Sox and a good joke. He is survived by a son Ed O’Connell and his girlfriend Kayleen Stratton of Windham, NH; two daughters, Carolyn and her husband Charles LaMack of Peabody and Kathleen O’Connell and her husband Bey Forghani of Orinda, CA; two grandsons, Daniel LaMack and Ryan Forghani, and several nieces and nephews. A visitation will be held on Thursday from 4 – 8 P.M. in the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to gather from the funeral home on Friday November 16, 2012 at 9 AM followed by a Funeral Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM in St. Adelaide’s Church, Peabody. Burial will be in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody. Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association, 20 Speen St. Framingham, MA 01701.
