Obituary of Florence Carmella (Melchionda) Alvino
Florence Carmella (Melchionda) Alvino, 90, beloved wife of the late Joseph V. Alvino, died at her daughter’s home on Monday, November 12, 2012 surrounded by her loving family.
Mrs. Alvino was born in East Boston, on June 30, 1922, daughter of the late Angelo and Louise (Sabia) Melchionda. She was raised in East Boston and graduated from East Boston High School. Florence resided in Saugus before moving to her daughter’s home in Peabody 2 ½ years ago.
Florence was a loving mother who devoted her life to creating a home for her family. With a never-ending family passion, she enjoyed the precious time spent following the accomplishments of her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Mrs. Alvino is survived by her cherished children and their spouses Anthony “Tony” and Karen E. Alvino of Bradford, Mary Lou and Roy P. Hagen of Peabody, and Florence Alvino Flanagan and James Flanagan of Wakefield; her loving grandchildren and their spouses, Gina Hagen Kolenda and Bob Kolenda, Jodi Hagen Corsino and Mark Corsino, Susan Hagen Connors and Kevin Connors, Tony Alvino Jr. and Laura Alvino, Christopher and Alex Alvino, Ryan J. Flanagan and Shawn J. Flanagan; her dearest great grandchildren, Skyler, James, Michael, Shannon, Boston and David; 4 sisters-in-law, Elena Tontodonato of Stoneham, Marie Fitzgibbon and her husband John of Brookline, Gloria Alvino of Hingham and Catherine Melchionda of Revere, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers Michael, James and John Melchionda.
Her funeral will be held on Friday, November 16, 2012 at 8:45 a.m. from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at the Most Blessed Sacrament Church, 1155 Main St., Wakefield. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visiting hours are Thursday, November 15, 2012 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requested that memorial contributions be made to Hospice of the North Shore, 75 Sylvan St., Suite B-102, Danvers, MA 01923.
