Obituary of Dorothy "Dotty" (Putnam) Durkee

Dorothy W. (Putnam) Durkee PEABODY—Dorothy W. (Putnam) Durkee, 87, beloved wife of the late Roger A. Durkee, died Saturday morning November 10, 2012 at the North Shore Medical Center—Salem Hospital following a brief illness. Born in Peabody, she was the daughter of the late Everett and Alice (Jung) Putnam. She graduated from Peabody High School, and was a lifelong resident of the city. Besides nurturing her family, Mrs. Durkee worked as an assembler soldering with GTE Sylvania on Loring Ave for 30 years. Dorothy, known as “Dotty”, was an avid gardener well-known for growing roses. She loved being outside, whether taking walks or tending to her garden. She also loved cats. She is survived by a son, Roger “Al” Durkee, III of Peabody; three brothers, Harold Putnam of Peabody, Roy Putnam of Center Harbor, NH, and Ralph Putnam of Moultonboro, NH; two sisters, Eileen Blackler-Hall of Marblehead and Joan Hazell of Hampton, NH; a brother-in-law Sid Durkee of Peabody; two sisters-in-law Barbara O’Keefe of Danvers and Priscilla Dempsey of Standish, ME, and several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a sister Hilda Churchill. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to gather for a visitation on Thursday November 15, 2012 from 10:30 AM – 12 Noon, followed by a Funeral Service at 12 Noon in the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of the North Shore, 75 Sylvan St. Suite B-102, Danvers, MA 01923.
