Obituary of Martha Yokas

Martha (Zaharakis) Yokas PEABODY Martha (Zaharakis) Yokas, beloved wife of George Yokas, died Friday evening. Born in Koroni, Messinia, Greece, she was the daughter of the late George and Maria (Yiallelis) Zaharakis. She lived in Korini for many years, and met her husband, George, there. She moved with the family to live in Bridgeport, CT for about a year, then in 1956 moved to Peabody where she lived for the last 46 years. Mrs. Yokas worked as a Stitcher at New England Sportswear in Peabody for over 30 years before retiring. She was active in St. Vasilios Church along with her husband, and was a member of the Philoptohos Society, and she loved travel, spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, and cooking. She is survived by: one son and daughter-in-law, Sotirios Steve & Jean Yokas of Peabody; three daughters and sons-in-law, Anastasia & Peter Scangas of Salem, Maria & Peter Colonis of Waterford, CT, and Fotini Tina Manolakos of Peabody; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren,; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Antoni & Voula Zaharakis and Niko & Voula Zaharakis, both of Athens, Greece; two sisters, Anna Psathas of Athens, Greece and Titsa & Stavros Calligeros of Richmond, CA, and several nieces and nephews. The double funeral for she and her husband, George, will be held on Tuesday at 9 AM from the Conway facility at 12 Chestnut St of the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, Peabody, followed by a Funeral Service at 10 AM in St. Vasilios Church, Peabody. Relatives and friends kindly invited. A visitation will be held today from 4 to 8 PM Burial in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody.
