Dear Underhill family, Though I am not directly one of you, I send my greetings and condolences. It is one of those happy coincidences that connects me with Wayne and Warren. I, too, grew up in Newton, and all through my years at FA Day Junior High, and Newton High School, class of 1949, every so often when I encountered a new teacher in the fall, he oir she would ask me if I was related to Wayne or Warren Underhill. Finally, one day I met Wayne when I was visiting my then girl friend who was a student a UConn, where he was chaplain. Now a long time ago. I was a student at Wesleyan in Middletown, CT, and went on to Union Seminary in NYC, eventually becoming ordained in the Episcopal Church. I could not help noticing Wayne's obituary, and sent thses greetings and condolences. He certainly had a full and usefull life, as well as a long one. Now he is securely in the Love and Joy of our Lord and heavenly Father. May he rest in peace, and may you know the strength and love of Christ to be with you in your sorrow.

I am sorry that Margie and I were unable to make the visitation periods, or the funeral service.

Rev. Wayne conducted many funeral services at my former funeral home, and he always made them very caring and special - which is the type of person he was.

We all loved him, he will be greatly missed by everyone he touched.

Dave and Margie Richardson

Dear Gretchen and family, Please know that I will keep you all in my prayers. Mr. Underhill must surely be sleeping in heavenly peace, proud of his loving family. And may I add a note to his caregivers as well.... they are the proof of angels on earth. Angels cloaked my family in loving care as well these last few years. Godspeed.

For many years,I had the pleasure of working with Wayne at the Me & Thee coffeehouse and also on issues of peace and economic justice. I can honestly say that I never met another person as upstanding and outstanding I have many fine--and funny--memories of him. He was steadfast and resolute in his beliefs, while simultaneously possessing a keen appreciation of the healing power of forgiveness and reconciliation. From time to time, most of us question the value of existence; bur never Wayne. He knew better. The world was enriched by his life.

The many years of happy times and laughter you had with Mom and Dad are such a huge part of our family memories. Wayne's strong faith and commitment has always been a source or strenghth to us all. All of my thoughts and prayers are with you. I wish I could be there, but please know how much you mean to me and how blessed I am to have had both you and Wayne in my life. I love you all.
