Obituary of Sr. Virginia Ball, SND

Sister Virginia Ball, SND, of Ipswich, died peacefully December 19, 2012 at the Sisters of Notre Dame Julia Billiart Retirement Center in Ipswich. Sister Virginia was born Barbara Helen Ball in Dorchester on November 22, 1922, daughter of the late Henry and Mary (Anderson) Ball. Sister Virginia entered the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur at Walthamon August 4, 1940 and professed her Perpetual Vows on July 30, 1948. Sister Virginia’s ministries were in Somerville, South Boston, Cambridge, South Boston, Worcester, Tyngsboro, Cincinnati, and Ipswich. Sister Virginia is survive by her many Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur family, her siblings, Sr. Marie Henry Ball, SND Worcester, her nieces, Virginia Lagos, Clare White, Barbara Lee, and Mary Marini, her nephews, James, Frederick, Donald, and Robert Ritchie. She was predeceased by her siblings, Fr. Henry W. Ball, SJ, Sr. Catherine St.AliceBall, SND and Mary Ritchie. Sister Virginia’s Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday at 3:00 PM at Our Lady of Queen Chapel, 30 Jeffreys Neck Road, Ipswich. Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Friday from 1 – 3 PM at the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur in Ipswich. A Prayer Service will be held at 2:00 PM. Memorial contributions may be made in Sister’s name to the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur, 30 Jeffreys Neck Rd., Ipswich, MA01938.
