Obituary of Ernest Avagianos
Ernest Avagianos, 84, of Lynn, died Monday evening at Salem Hospital following a brief illness. He was the devoted husband of Florence (John) Avagianos with whom he shared over 62 years of marriage with.
Born in New York, New York, he was the son of the late Sotiros and Despina Avagianos. He was raised and educated in Lynn and was a graduate of Lynn Classical High School.
After high school, Ernie enlisted with the United States Navy and served aboard the USS Stickell in Okinawa, Pearl Harbor and in the Asiatic Theatre before being honorably discharged in 1949. Following his discharged from the Navy, he was employed as a machinist and tool and dye marker throughout the North Shore, and finally before retiring, he worked for 16 years at the General Electric River Works Plant in Lynn.
Ernie was a member of the American Legion and loved watching sports and was an avid fan of both the Red Sox and Patriots. His greatest joy was spending time with his family and later his grandchildren and sharing in all of their endeavors.
Besides his loving wife, he is survived by two sons, Nicholas S Avagianos of Desert Hot Springs, CA and Paul J. Avagianos of Haverhill, his daughter, Cynthia Avagianos of Lynnfield, his three grandchildren, Allison, Thomas, and Christopher Avagianos, and is also survived by a great granddaughter, Isabel Valesquez and several nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late Thomas Avagianos and brother of the late George Avagianos.
His Funeral Service will be held on Saturday at 11:00 AM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Friday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Lynn. Expressions of sympathy can be made in his name to a charity of one’s choice.
