Obituary of Dena (Mallas) Crean

Dena (Mallas) Crean, 86, of Peabody, died early Saturday morning at Salem Hospital following a brief illness. She was the devoted wife of the late Francis “Bootsie” Crean. Born in Peabody, she was the daughter of the late Arestedes and Catherine (Pappas) Mallas. She was a lifelong resident of Peabody and a graduate of Peabody High School. At an early age, Dena was employed in the leather industry and upon having her daughters, dedicated herself to her family at home. She later enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren and sharing in all of their endeavors. Dena enjoyed cooking, sewing and was very generous in giving to various charitable organization throughout the North Shore. Dena is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Dorene and Richard Mendes of Middleton, a son-in-law, Jonathan Connolly of Peabody, her four beloved grandchildren, Cyndi and her husband Michael Repole, Kerri and Jonathan Connolly, and Amelia Mendes and her fiancé Corey Erwin, two great grandchildren, Aaron and Noah Repole and by several nieces, nephews and dear friends. She was the mother of the late Catherine Connolly and sister of the late Theodore and William Mallas. Her service will be held on Wednesday at 9:00 AM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, followed by her Funeral Service at 10:00 AM at St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church, Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Annunciation Cemetery, Hobart St., Danvers, MA01923. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to the Scleroderma Foundation, 300 Rosewood Drive, Suite 105, Danvers, MA01923.
