Obituary of Olive D. (Dragon) LeCain

Olive D. LeCain, 87, of Peabody, left this life on January 13, 2013 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers after a brief illness. She was the wife of the late George R. LeCain, son of Fred J. and Susie M. (Broughton) LeCain of Peabody, with whom she shared 47 years of marriage until his death in December 1991. Olive lived at her home on Lynn Street in South Peabody for the past 60 years. Born Beatrice Olive Dragon in Danvers on February 5, 1925, the youngest of four children of her late parents Ernest R. and Beatrice E. (Savage) Dragon, Olive attended Danvers Public Schools, starting at the one-room Fox Hill schoolhouse in Danversport at age 5 and graduated Holten High School, class of 1942. A child prodigy as a violinist, she declined scholarship at the New England Conservatory of Music after graduation and instead devoted her life to her marriage and her eventual five children. She remained active as a noted violinist and musician, however, throughout her life, as a member of the Starlight Trio, the Salem Philharmonic and most recently as principal violinist with the Tri-Town Symphony Orchestra. Olive and her family were members of the Second Congregational Church in South Peabody, where she served as church organist and musical director for many years. Surviving are her three sons, Paul R. LeCain and his wife Nancy of Fremont, NH, George E. LeCain and his wife Bethany of Andover, and Mark F. LeCain of Peabody, her daughter Joyce E. Jameson and her husband John of Danvers, 11 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews and their families. She was predeceased by her daughter Lee Ann LeCain, who tragically died from an auto accident at age 17 in 1974. Also surviving are her sister-in-law Priscilla M. Douglas and her husband Robert of Peabody, and her sister-in-law Ola B. Dragon of New Smyrna Beach,FL. She was predeceased by her siblings Milton H. Dragon, Carroll E. Dragon and Martha J. Eaton, and her sisters-in-law Dorothy E. Daly and Barbara E. Creeden. Olive will be remembered as an unwaveringly loving, thoughtful and supportive wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, sister-in-law and friend to the many, many people whose lives she enriched. Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Her Funeral Service will be held on Thursday at 10:00 AM at the Second Congregational Church, South Peabody and burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery,Peabody.
