Obituary of Gertrude Elizabeth (Hughes) Kondon

Gertrude Elizabeth Kondon, 99 years, was born September 14, 1906 in Roxbury and died at St. Elizabeth’ s Home in East Greenwich Rhodes Island on November 13, 2005. She was a longtime resident of Peabody and a member of St. Adelaide’ s Parish. Despite being raised in several households due to her mother’ s early death she grew up to become a strong woman of deep faith and had a long happy marriage to John Kondon who died in 1990. Gertrude’ s sunny disposition and sense of humor were magnetic and she was beloved by her large family and all who knew her. Until the end of her life she continued to make new friends and to be a joy to others. She is survived by her 3 sons and their wives, John Kondon, Jr. and Cynthia Kondon of Rancho Palos Verdes, CA, Nicholas and Cheryl Kondon of Hopkinton, RI and Robert and Janice Kondon of Salem, MA; 6 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Her parents Thomas and Anne (Nolan) Hughes pre deceased her. Her funeral will be held Friday Nov. 18 at 9 a.m. from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 12 Chestnut St. location, Peabody followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Adelaide’ s Church, 708 Lowell St., Peabody. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visiting hours Thursday Nov. 17 from 5 to 8 p.m. Burial in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate contributions to St. Elizabeth’ s Home, Unit 2, One St. Elizabeth’ s Way, East Greenwich, RI 02818 where she received excellent care.
