Obituary of Barbara A. (Page) Doucette

Barbara A. (Page) Doucette of Peabody, died on Wednesday, February 6, 2013 at a local hospital from a sudden illness. Barbara was born in Lynn, MA on May 9, 1928 and lived her early days at the Page family home across from the Normal School on Loring Avenue in Salem, then moved to Peabody, graduating in the very notable Class of 1945 of Peabody High School. Soon thereafter Barbara was hired by Elmer Eaton, owner of Eaton the Druggist, to work in the store's warehouse, office and Grosvenor Labs in Salem, assigned many responsibilities in the company, which included her role as personal assistant to Donald Blodgett, a later owner of the firm; she valued all facets of her work and how the company evolved, as her only employer until retirement in the late 1980's. Barbara offered the same devotion to work after retirement on local interests including the Peabody Historical Society and historical collections at the Peabody Institute Library, and as an election worker at the Brooskby Village voting precinct. She was an informative presenter and researcher about topics on Peabody's past; she authored a work on the City's early settlement and history, which arose from research on the Page genealogy and organizational efforts of her “adopted” Felton Family Association Barbara was preceded in death by her husband John, and is survived by sons John and his wife Maryann of No. Olmstead OH, Daniel and his companion Lindsay Huntoon of Peabody, three grandsons John, Jr. and wife Alisa of Saugus, CA, Joseph and wife Melinda of No. Olmstead OH, and James and his wife Alison of Moorpark, CA and the devoted GG to her great-grandchildren Taylor, Justin, Mason, Zachary, Zoie and Nathan. Friends and those she touched are invited to gather on Monday, February 11, 2013 from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 20 Church St. Peabody location (next to Peabody City Hall). A memorial service and celebration of life will be held at a later date at the Peabody Historical Society's Felton-Smith site at Brooksby Farm. Memorial contributions, and donations in lieu of flowers, may be made in Barbara’s name to the Elizabeth Cassidy Fund of the Peabody Historical Society, 35 Washington Street Peabody, MA. A private internment of ashes will be conducted by the family at a later date.
