Obituary of Sister Ann Maxwell, SND
Sister Ann Maxwell, SND, 91, of Ipswich, died peacefully on February 8, 2013 at the Sisters of Notre Dame Julie Billiart Retirement Center in Ipswich.
Sr. Ann was born Jessie Elizabeth Maxwell, in Lawrence, on June 26, 1921, daughter of the Joseph and Jessie Ann (Taylor) Maxwell. Sister Ann entered the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur at Waltham on February 2, 1939, and professed her Perpetual Vows on July 30, 1947. Sister received her Bachelor of Arts Degree from Emmanuel College, and later pursued her education in Psychometrics at Boston College and her Theological Certification at Providence College.
Sister Ann’s ministries were in Lowell, Cambridge, Honolulu, Lawrence, So. Boston, Cambridge, Ipswich, and Kenya, Africa.
Sister Ann is survived by her many Sisters of Notre Dame, a sister and brother-in-law, Eleanor and Roger Ratte, nieces and nephews, Joanne Culhane, Joseph Ratte, James Gilmartin, Patricia Moore, Gertrude Fowler, Barbara Hellings, James McDonough and John McDonough. She was predeceased by her siblings, John, Joseph, James, Henry, Gertrude, Helen, Catherine, Margaret (Sr. Joseph Margaret, SND), Dorothy and Sr. Marion Patricia Maxwell, SND.
Sister Ann’s Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, February 12, 2013 at 3 p.m. at Our Lady Queen Chapel, 30 Jeffreys Neck Rd., Ipswich. Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Tuesday from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur, Ipswich. A Prayer Service will be held at 2 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made in Sister Ann’s name to the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur, 30 Jeffreys Neck rd., Ipswich, MA 01938. Sister Ann’s burial will be held at a later date at Notre Dame Cemetery, Ipswich. Arrangements by the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, Peabody.
