Obituary of Mary K. (Mac Neil) Stickney
Mary K. (Mac Neil) Stickney, 82, beloved wife of Charles E. Stickney of Peabody, died peacefully Sunday February 10, 2013 at the Jesmond Nursing Home in Nahant while in the comforting presence of her family.
Born in Somerville, she was the daughter of the late Roderick and Mary (Libro) Mac Neil. She grew up in Gloucester, and graduated from Gloucester High School, Class of 1949. Orphaned as a young girl, she was brought up by her grandparents Vincent and Theresa Elizabeth Lebro.
Mrs. Stickney was a very nurturing and giving person, and carried those traits well as a Nurse’s Aide at the Twin Oaks Nursing Home in Danvers for 25 years.
Mary moved to Peabody once her husband, Charles E. Stickney, was discharged from the Army in the Korean War and lived in Peabody for 53 years. She was a member of the Italian-American Club of Peabody, enjoyed classical music especially Italian and Opera music.
She is survived by her husband Charles E. Stickney of Peabody, with whom she shared 56 years of marriage; four sons Charles “Chuck” Stickney of St. Charles, IL, Kenneth Stickney of Lake Charles, LA, Mark Stickney of Peabody, and Stephen Stickney of Brooklyn, NY; seven grandchildren; a brother Roderick Mac Neil of Gloucester, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death, besides her parents, by a sister Theresa Mac Neil.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to gather on Friday February 15, 2013 at 11:30 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, followed by a Funeral Mass of Christian Burial at 12:30 P.M. in St. Mary of the Annunciation Church in Danvers. A visitation will be held on Thursday from 4 – 8 P.M. in the funeral home. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Gloucester.
