Obituary of Acedelia Da Costa Fernandes Bernardo

Acedelia Da Costa Fernandes Bernardo PEABODY—Acedelia Fernandes Da Costa Bernardo, 75, beloved wife of Diamantino Bernardo of Peabody, died unexpectedly on Sunday February 17, 2013 at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston while in the comforting and supportive presence of her family. Born in Magalha, Portugal, she was the daughter of the late Jose Da Costa and Secundina Fernandes. She lived there for 39 years, then moved to Peabody where she lived for the last 36 years. Mrs. Bernardo worked with FPI Fishery Products in Danvers for 15 years. She enjoyed gardening and maintaining her rose garden, going for walks, and enjoyed game shows like Wheel of Fortune and The Price is Right. She will be remembered as a nurturing mother very dedicated to her husband and family, especially her grandchildren as several she would care for while their parents worked. She was devoted to her faith, and was always generous in supporting many organizations, and helping people from all walks of life. She was happiest when cooking, with soups and rice recipe. Her passion in life was her family, her children and grandchildren, and animals. She spent the last year taking care of her new love, a little Yorkie named Louie She is survived by her husband Diamantino Bernardo of Peabody, with whom she shared 52 years of marriage; her sons and daughters, Dulce Bernardo of Goffstown, NH, Jose Bernardo of Peabody, Isabel Bernardo of Peabody, Maria Rosa Barrete of Peabody, Lucilia Middlemiss of Dover, NH, Albertino Bernardo of Groveland, and John Bernardo of Peabody; seven grandchildren, Carisa, Amanda, Amy, Joshua, Shawn, Olivia, and Lillie and a great-grandchild Tyler; she was one of a large family of 16 brothers and sisters in Portugal, and she leaves many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a daughter Ilda. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to gather on Friday February 22, 2013 for her Funeral Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM in St. John the Baptist Church Peabody. A visitation will be held on Thursday from 4 – 8 P.M. in the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St. Peabody. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem.
