Obituary of Sophie K. (Kaczmarek) Walsh

Sophie K. (Kaczmarek) Walsh, 96, of Peabody, died Wednesday afternoon at the Sunbridge Nursing Home following a brief illness. She was the devoted wife of the late Joseph Walsh. Born in Poland, she was the daughter of the late John and Mary (Gustav) Kaczmarek. She immigrated to the United States as a young child settling in Beverly. She was raised and educated in Beverly and was a graduated of Beverly High School. Upon marrying her husband, she lived in Salem for a number of years and ha been living in Peabody for the past 20 years. She attended Salem Commercial School and later worked as a secretary for Salem Oil and Grease, retiring in 1940. She later was a member of Peabody Council on Aging, volunteered for Meals and Wheels, and a member of the Peabody Community Life Center. She also enjoyed knitting and sewing. She is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, William Joseph Walsh of Newington, Ct, and John Henry and his wife Jean Walsh of Salem; two daughters and sons-in-law, Mary and Brian O’ Leary of Wakefield and Margaret and John Penney of Hanover. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren. She was the sister of the late Mary Kashman. Her funeral service will be held on Saturday at 11:00 AM in St. John’ s Church, Peabody, to which relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 10:00 until 11:00 AM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 20 Church St., Peabody Facility. Burial in St. Mary’ s Cemetery, Salem.
