Obituary of David Ray Brahm
David Ray Brahm, 75, of Peabody and Nahant, died Sunday evening at the Kaplan family Hospice House in Danvers following a brief illness. He was the beloved husband of Alba (Muollo) Brahm with whom he shared over 51 years of marriage.
Born in Canandaigua, New York, he was the son of the late William and Mary Louise (Dickinson) Brahm. He was raised and educated in New York and has lived in Peabody for the past 51 years.
David received his Mechanical Engineering Degree from MIT in 1959. He was a member of ROTC while at MIT, and upon graduation entered six months active duty in the U.S. Army at Fort Belvoir, Virginia, followed by many years in the Army Reserve where he attained the rank of Captain.
David was first employed at Pratt and Whitney in Connecticut for a year before embarking at a 42 year career as a mechanical engineer at General Electric in Lynn. He worked mainly on helicopter and airplane engines, including the TF 34 engine. He was a past president of the ELFUN Society and was a member of the Lions club in Nahant.
Upon his retirement from General Electric, David enjoyed wintering in Naples, Florida and summering in Nahant. He enjoyed boating and received his boating license in Marblehead so he could captain a boat in Florida. He liked assembling model airplanes and rockets and enjoyed bowling.
Besides his loving wife of 51 years, he is survived by his son David Brahm and his wife Karen Hunold of Chelsea, his sister, Wilma Giunta and her husband Joe of Syracuse, NY and is also survived by several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers William, Robert, and James Brahm and his sister Verna Brahm. His Funeral Service will be held on Saturday at 11:30 AM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held prior to the service from 10:00 AM until 11:30 AM. Burial will be in OakGroveCemetery, Playstead St., Medford. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to the MGH/ North Shore Cancer Center, 102 Endicott St., Danvers, MA01923.
