Obituary of Penelope (Polemenakos) Karedis

Penelope Karedis 80, of Danvers formerly of Salem, died Friday evening at Beverly Hospital following a brief illness. She was the devoted wife of the late Antonios Karedis. Born in Sparta, Greece, she was the daughter of the late Jim and Konstatina (Katsos) Polemenakos. She was raised and educated in Greece, later immigrated to the United States where she had lived in Salem and Danvers. Penelope was employed for over 25 years as a seamstress at the former Hood Sail Makers in Marblehead before she retired. She enjoyed spending time with her family and was very compassionate about visiting and befriending people in local nursing homes. Penelope is survived by a son, John and his wife Voula Karedis of Danvers, her daughter, Angela Karedis of Lynn, her brother, Steve Polemenakos of Marblehead, her sisters, Helen Kopoulos of Lynn, Pota “Pat” Venetos of Salem, Effie Panagakis of Chelmsford and Dina Tisklis of Chelmsford, her six beloved grandchildren, Tony Karedis, Penny James, Nina, Peggy, Nick, J.J., and Christopher Karedis, and by a great grandchild, Jordan James. Her funeral will be held on Saturday at 10:30 am at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, followed by Funeral Services at 11:30 am at St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church, Paleologos St., Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be on Friday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM. Burial will be in Harmony Grove Cemetery, Salem. Expressions of sympathy can be made in her name to St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church, 5 Paleologos St., Peabody, MA 01960.
