Obituary of Isabelle U. (Sheris) Hoag

Isabelle U. (Sheris) Hoag, 90, of Peabody, wife of the late Harold M. Hoag, died on Thursday, March 7, 2013 at the Rosewood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Peabody. Mrs. Hoag was born in Worcester, on November 17, 1922, the daughter of Peter and Ursula (Grigaliunas) Sheris. She was raised in Lynn and graduated from Lynn Classical High School in 1940. Following her marriage she moved to Peabody where she has resided for 62 years. Mrs. Hoag was employed as an assembler for 10 years at General Electric and for 15 years at W.T. Grant in Lynn. During her many years living in Peabody she had a very active life. Isabelle was a faithful communicant of St. Ann’s. She enjoyed yard work and kept her home in tip-top condition. Talking on the telephone with her sister and brothers was a daily event. Music was a passion and included singing and dancing to Polka music both at home and out with friends at social clubs. Isabelle was very close to the family and never missed a celebration whether it be a birthday, anniversary, sporting event, graduation, wedding or holiday. Upon retirement, she and Harold loved to travel and took extended vacation to most of the country including Florida and California. She developed a technique of pulling the handle of a slot machine and became a frequent visitor to Foxwoods, Atlantic City, and even Las Vegas. In recent years, due to her failing eyesight, her transistor radio became her daily companion. She was an avid sports fan and never tired listening to the Patriots, Red Sox or Celtic games. The WBZ news played all day and evening talk shows were comforting. Isabelle was blessed to have a kind and loving husband, Harold, for the past 61 years of her life. They were inseparable and a year ago she took his passing very hard. Without him Isabelle was not able to live alone and spent her last two years at the Rosewood Nursing Home. Although the odds of survival were against her she remained a strong, courageous, religious and loving woman. Isabelle lost her vision, mobility, and ability to eat. Despite this, she survived due to the loving support of her family and her faith in God. Now she is out of her discomfort and joined in heaven with her beloved Harold. Thank you Isabelle for being an important part of our lives. You’ve given us many wonderful memories to reflect upon. God bless you and rest in peace! Mrs. Hoag is survived by her nephews, nieces and their spouses, William Fader, James and Loretta Fader, Robert Fader all of Peabody, Carole and John Roberts of Saugus, Christine Sheris of Lynn and Rosemary Sheris of Georgia; a great nephew, Keith Fader of Peabody; and other family members, Marolyn & Michael Ciarletta of Salem. She was predeceased by her siblings, Charles, Christopher and John Sheris, and Veronica Fader. Mrs. Hoag’s family will receive family and friends on Wednesday, March 13, 2013 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody.
