Obituary of John H. Donovan

John H. Donovan DANVERS—John H. Donovan, 78, of Middleton, formerly of Danvers and Peabody, beloved husband for 55 years of Norene (Leslie) Donovan of Middleton, died peacefully on Saturday March 23, 2013 at the Norwood Hospital while in the comforting presence and surrounded by his family, following an extended illness. Born in Peabody, he was the son of the late Harold and Margaret (Caulfield) Donovan. He grew up in Peabody, and graduated from Peabody High School, Class of 1952. He went on to study at Northeastern University. Mr. Donovan was the Vice-President of Sales with Salem Oil & Grease in the leather industry for 32 years before retiring 11 years ago. John enjoyed golfing and was a member of the Salem Country Club in Peabody for 35 years. He also enjoyed fishing, and served as Treasurer of the New England Tanners Club. He was a devoted grandfather of four, and especially enjoyed taking them on a yearly fishing trip to Belgrade Lakes, Maine. He is survived by his wife Norene (Leslie) Donovan of Middleton; a son Jack & his wife Shelby Donovan of Andover and a daughter Joan & her husband Patrick Padden of Danvers; four grandchildren, John Donovan, Patrick Curran, John Curran, and Catherine Curran, and several nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to gather on Wednesday March 27, 2013 at 8 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, followed by a Funeral Mass of Christian Burial at 9 AM in St. Richard’s Church, Danvers. A visitation will be held on Tuesday from 4 – 7 P.M. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem. Expressions of sympathy may be made to St. Richard’s Church, 90 Forest St., Danvers, MA 01923.
