Michael Sclafani
PEABODY—Michael Sclafani, 87, beloved husband of Anne (Freddura) Sclafani of Peabody, died peacefully on Saturday afternoon March 23, 2013 at the Hunt Rehab Facility in Danvers while in the comforting presence of his loving family.
Born in Boston, he was the son of the late Simone and Maria (DiLeo) Sclafani. He grew up in the North End of Boston and graduated from Boston Public Schools. He later attended Franklin Institute and Suffolk University after World War II. He lived in the Readville neighborhood of Hyde Park for many years, and lived in Peabody for the last 14 years.
Mr. Sclafani was a veteran of World War II in the United States Army with service in the Air Corps. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge and was under the command of General George Patton.
He served as the Assistant Clerk Magistrate at Suffolk Superior Court in Boston for 40 years before retiring 22 years ago.
Michael was a member of the American Legion in Dedham, and was always tinkering with electrical projects around the his house and those of family and friends. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his wife Anne (Freddura) Sclafini of Peabody; he was a devoted father of Simone Sclafani & his wife Marisa Sclafani of Peabody and Mary Ellen Sclafani-Abrams & her husband Neil Abrams of Peabody; a dedicated, cherished and beloved grandfather of Peter Sclafani of Peabody; loving brother of Pasquale Sclafani of Watertown, Nina Rizza of Manchester, CT and Accursia “Gussy” Marinelli of NH, and he leaves many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by brothers Anthony and Rosario Sclafani, and a sister Lillian Vitale.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to gather on Wednesday March 27, 2013 at 8 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, followed by a Funeral Mass of Christian Burial at 9 AM in St. John the Baptist Church, Peabody. A visitation will be held on Tuesday from 4 – 8 P.M. in the funeral home. Burial in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Lynn. Veteran of WW II, U.S. Army.
