Obituary of John H. McNamara
John H. McNamara, 87, died Friday March 22, 2013 in the comforting presence of his family at his home.
Born in Peabody, he was the son of the late John H. and Lillian (Richards) McNamara. He grew up in Peabody where he attended schools. He lived in Lynn for many years.
He was a veteran of World War II, with service in the United States Army, and upon his discharge achieved the rank of Corporal. He served in Burma, India
Mr. McNamara worked with General Electric in Wilmington for his career until retirement 22 years ago.
John played softball for Tanner’s Pub of Peabody, and enjoyed taking fishing trips to Canada. He was very devoted to his nieces and nephews and will be remembered for all his kindness and generosity extended to them.
He is survived by two sisters, Gloria and her husband Oakley Lockard and Shirley McNamara all of Hamilton; seven nieces and nephews, Lisa & her husband Al Miano, Dennis & his wife Gail Lockard, Heidi & her husband Scott Cutter, Gretchen & her husband Carl Chytla, Damie & her husband Joe Curran, Larry & his wife Elaine Lockard, and Daniel Lockard; eight great-nieces & nephews, and three great-great-nephews.
Following cremation a private family Funeral Service honoring his life was held graveside in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem. Expressions of sympathy may be made to VNA Care Network & Hospice, Development Office, 5 Federal St., Danvers, MA 01923.
