Obituary of James T. Daley

James T. Daley, 87, beloved husband of Marguerite (Carney) Daley of Peabody, died Friday morning at the Lahey Medical Center Hospital in Peabody, while in the comforting presence of his family. Born in Peabody, he was the son of the late Timothy and Margaret (Roche) Daley. He was a graduate of Peabody High School, Class of 1943, and a lifelong resident of the city. In 1943 Mr. Daley stepped up to serve his country in the United States Navy during World War II. Mr. Daley was a Safety Director with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Transportation Department for 42 years, retiring in 1994. Jim was proud of his Irish heritage, and was a big fan of Notre Dame Football. He was totally dedicated and devoted to his family and his faith, and will be remembered for his gentle manner and for living with humility and simplicity. His quick wit was present up until the very end, and his Irish eyes were always smiling. He was deeply loved and will be missed by many. He is survived by his wife Marguerite (Carney) Daley of Peabody, with whom he shared 45 years of marriage; his loving daughter Catherine Daley of Peabody; two sisters-in-law, Barbara Carney of Peabody and Ann Rutan of Charlotte, NC, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to gather on Wednesday April 3, 2013 at 10 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, followed by a Funeral Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM in St. John the Baptist Church, Peabody. A visitation will be held on Tuesday from 5 – 8 P.M. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
