Obituary of Philip J. Chmiel

Philip J. Chmiel, 64, of Peabody, died unexpectedly at his home on Thursday afternoon. He was the beloved husband of Lee Ann (Polizzotti) Chmiel with whom he shared over 36 years of marriage. Born in Salem, he was the son of the late Joseph and Agnes (Niekrasz) Chmiel. He was a life long resident of Peabody and a graduate of Bishop Fenwick High School, class of 1966. He continued on with his education at Northeastern and later earned his Associates Degree in Business from North Shore Community College. Phil owned and operated his family business, Pioneer Garage Company, Inc on Washington St. in Peabody for over 40 years before retiring in 2008. He grew up with the business and started working as a mechanic at the age of 8 and later became a master mechanic and enjoyed restoring antique cars. Phil was a life member of the Knights of Columbus, Leo Council # 508 in Peabody and was associated with the Jeepsters Club, a National club for over 40 years, and was an auxiliary member of the United States Coast Guard. Besides his loving wife Lee Ann, he is survived by his daughter, Emily Ann Chmiel of Peabody, a sister and brother-in-law, Patricia and Robert Dombrowski of Peabody, his niece and nephew, Tracy and her husband Chris Byers of Lowell and David Dombrowski of Peabody, a grandniece, Felicia Dombrowski of Peabody, and by his aunt, Ciocia Clara Kasprzyk of Tyngsboro. He will be greatly missed by everyone’s life he touched. He was predeceased by his godfather, Edward Chmiel His funeral service will be held on Monday at 9:00 AM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody followed by his Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, Margin St., Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Sunday from 4:00 until 7:00 PM. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem.
