Obituary of Robert L. Jenkins

Robert L. Jenkins, 71 years, husband of Ann M. Nancy (Flynn) Jenkins of Peabody died Wednesday at his home after a brief illness. Mr. Jenkins was born April 5, 1931 in Salem son of the late Bernard and Ella (Barry) Jenkins. He was raised in Peabody and graduated from Peabody High School class of 1948. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict enlisting in the United States Navy in 1951 as a Seaman 1st class serving aboard the USS Antyetam. After his discharge he was employed at the original New England Telephone Co. which then became NYNEX for 40 years first on the test boards in Lynn and Salem and retired in 1995 as an installer and repairman from the Lynn office. He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. He was an outdoors man who loved fishing, hunting and gardening. He also enjoyed traveling with his family. In addition to his wife of 49 years, he is survived by two sons, Daniel B. and his wife Jill Jenkins and Matthew R. and his fiancé Nancy Murphy all of Peabody; six daughters and their husbands, Linda M. and Martin Cohan, Debra J. and Kevin Selinger, Susan A. and Bill Linehan, Brenda M. and Scott Price, Nancy E. Jenkins and Kathleen A. and Glen Keenan all of Peabody; 14 grandchildren, Sean and Kelli Cohan, Jake, Matthew and Luke Selinger, Julie, Michael and Jennifer Linehan, Nikki, Mark and Kaleigh Price, Sam Jenkins, Jack and Katelyn Keenan all of Peabody and several nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Philip Jenkins. His funeral will be held Saturday at 9 a.m. from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 12 Chestnut St. Peabody location 978-531-0398 followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. John the Baptist Church, Peabody. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visiting hours Friday 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Burial in St. Mary’ s Cemetery, Salem.
