Obituary of Virginia (Whitney) Haggstrom Niland

Virginia M. (Whitney) Haggstrom Niland, 76, of South Peabody, died Sunday Evening at the Union Hospital, Lynn after a long illness. She was the wife of Edward F. Ted Niland and the late Alton A. Haggstrom. She was born in Marlboro, Ma on December 10, 1928, the daughter of the late Noah and Doris (Conrad) Whitney and was raised in Lynn graduating from Lynn English High School in 1946. She had resided in Peabody for the past 53 years. She had worked in the Finance Office of the AEG Department of General Electric in Lynn for over 20 years prior to her retirement in 1989. She enjoyed antiquing and going to auctions, doing ceramics and gardening. She is survived by her husband, Edward, a daughter, Patricia Haggstrom Girard and her husband Robert Butch Girard of Peabody. Two sons and a daughter-in-law, Glenn and Patricia Haggstrom of Parkman, Maine and Neil Haggstrom of Peabody; a sister, Alice Hudson of Salem, Ma and a brother, Curtis Whitney of Gainesville, FL, a step-son, Edward Niland Jr. of Danvers and a step-daughter, Maureen Libby of Central Maine, seven grandchildren, 2 great grandsons and many nieces and nephews. Her visitation will be held on Tuesday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 12 Chestnut St. Peabody facility. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 AM at the Funeral Home. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Salem.
