Obituary of John T. Fitzmaurice, Jr.

John T. Fitzmaurice Jr., 95, of Peabody died on Tuesday, April 30, 2013, with his family at his side at the Pilgrim Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Peabody. John was born in Peabody, on May 14, 1917, son of John T. Fitzmaurice Sr. and Mary J. (Feeney) Fitzmaurice. He was raised and educated in Peabody, graduating from Peabody High School in 1936. John served in the U.S. Army in WWII from 1942 through 1946 and was stationed in the Aleutian Islands, obtaining the rank of Corporal. John worked as a letter carrier in Peabody for 31 years, retiring in 1979. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Ancient Order of Hibernians and was the past President of the Peabody Chapter of the National Association of Letter Carriers for several years. Although John had no children of his own, he was very involved with the upbringing of his nieces and nephews. He had a passion for the Red Sox and a sincere interest in horse racing and attended the Kentucky Derby for a considerable number of years. John is survived by many nieces and nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews. He was predeceased by 4 sisters, Ruth Lowe, Marie Collins, Helen Passeggio Luisi and Patricia Kelley. The family will receive relatives and friends on Friday, May 3, 2013 from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 20 Church St. facility (next to St. John’s Church) Peabody. His Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated at 11 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Church, 16 Church St., Peabody.
