Obituary of Maureen E. (Staples) Bettano

Maureen E. (Staples) Bettano, 77, wife of Robert D. Bettano of Peabody, died with her family at her side on Wednesday, May 1, 2013 at the Lahey Clinic Medical Center, Burlington. Maureen was born in Medford, on February 26, 1936, daughter of the late Earl and Elizabeth (Crowley) Staples. She was raised in Medford and graduated from St. John’s High School in Cambridge in 1954. She then pursued her education at Felton Tarrington Business School in Boston. Maureen and Bob moved to Peabody in 1959. Maureen was employed as a bookkeeper for 20 years at Booth Industries in Peabody retiring in 2003. While working she furthered her studies at North Shore Community College. Maureen had a passion for family and enjoyed following her sons achievements and later she was so proud of her 5 grandchildren whom she adored. She very involved at St. John the Baptist Church as a Eucharistic Minister and scheduled the lectors for many years. She belonged to the Knitwits Club, enjoyed dancing, traveling with Bob and their friends for golf week ends, the ocean and as a hobby tending to her flower garden and shrubs . In addition to her husband Bob with whom she celebrated 57 years of marriage, Maureen is survived by her 2 sons and their spouses, Michael A. and Joyce Bettano, and Ronald R. and Mary Bettano all of Peabody; her 5 grandchildren, Jennifer L. Bettano, Michael A. Bettano, Jr. both of Peabody, Jennifer M. Blackwell of TX, Meaghan E. Bettano and Katherine G. Bettano both of Peabody; her sister, Margaret McDonald of AZ; a brother-in-law and 2 sisters-in-law, Roy and Jean Bettano of Saugus and Joanne Bettano of Stoneham; her nieces and nephews, Anthony, Stephen, Judy, Roberta, Paula, John and Richard. Maureen was predeceased by her son Robert P. Bettano in 1987 and a brother-in-law Anthony Bettano. Her funeral will be held on Monday, May 6, 2013 at 10 a.m. from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Church, 16 Church St., Peabody. Visiting hours are Sunday, May 5, 2013 from 3 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made in Maureen’s name to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute 10 Brookline Place West, 6th Floor, Brookline, MA 02445. Burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem.
