Obituary of Patricia A. (Vercellone) Gettings
Patricia A. (Vercellone) Gettings, 73, of Middleton and formerly of Peabody, died peacefully with her family by her side on Wednesday morning, May 15,2013 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers following a year long illness. She was the devoted wife of Paul Gettings with whom she shared 50 years of marriage.
Born in Peabody, she was the daughter of the late John and Angelina (Marchetti) Vercellone. She was raised and educated in Peabody and was a graduate of Peabody High School, class of 1957.
Patricia was first employed as a sales associate and operator at the former Jordan Marsh store in Peabody before its closing. After taking some time off to be with her children, she later worked for the town of Middleton School Department at the Howe-Manning School as a cashier in the lunch room for 18 years before she finally retired.
Patricia was very active in her community; volunteering both at St. Agnes Church and the Middleton Senior Center, and once a month for the past 40 years she would cook for family, friends, neighbors and relatives and serve a formal meal at her home in the truest Italian tradition. She was an avid Boston sports fan of the Red Sox, Patriots and Bruins and loved traveling with her husband for more than 40 trips across North America and Europe. She also enjoyed scrapbooking, crocheting and sewing, but her greatest joy came from spending time with her family and sharing in all of their endeavors.
Besides her loving husband, she is survived by her son and daughter, John Paul and his wife Michele Winkler Gettings of Danvers, and Laura and her husband Matthew Brink of Abington, her beloved sister, Joyce Vercellone of Peabody, and by her four loving grandchildren, Maxwell and Jude Gettings, and Mallory and Colton Brink.
Her funeral service will be held on Monday at 9:00 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Agnes Church, Boston St., Middleton at 10:00 AM to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Sunday from 3:00 until 6:00 PM and burial will be in Oakdale Cemetery, Middleton. Expressions of sympathy can be made in her name to the Hospice of the North Shore & Greater Boston, 75 Sylvan St., Suite 102-B, Danvers, MA01923.
