Obituary of Lewis F. "Luke" McHugh

Lewis F. “Luke” Mc Hugh, 77, of Peabody, died Monday evening at his residence with his family by his side after a year long illness. He was the husband of Mary H. (Malionek) McHugh with whom he shared 51 years of marriage. He was born in Peabody, the son of the late Louis F. and Blanche (Gagnon) Mc Hugh and was a lifelong resident of Peabody. He graduated from PeabodyHigh School in 1954 where he was an outstanding player on the Hockey team that won the North Shore League championship and played at Lake PlacidN.Y. in the finals of the US School championship. Upon graduation, he studied his apprenticeship as an electrician. He was a member of Local 259 I.B.E.W. of Salem and served a short term as treasurer. Local 259 then merged with Local 103 out of Dorchester and his service to both locals was more than fifty eight years prior to his retirement. Luke was drafted in the US Army and served two years in Germany with the Signal Corps and also served two years with the Army Reserve in Salem. He lovingly leaves his wife Mary of Peabody, his three sons and daughters –in-law, Michael and Mary McHugh of Amesbury, Brian and Louise McHugh of Ipswich, and Patrick and Laura McHugh of Millwood, NY, a daughter and son-in-law, Erin and Kevin Barry of Beverly. He was blessed with nine grandchildren, Ryan, Zachary, Sean, Jillian, Amanda, Luke and Connor McHugh, Brigid Ann Barry and infant William McHugh who died at birth. He also leaves two brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert and Blanche McHugh of Lakeway, Texas, and George and Mary Mc Hugh of Dublin, California and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Walter Mc Hugh who died in 1975. A Visitation will be held on Thursday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 82 Lynn St., Peabody facility. His funeral will be held on Friday at 8:00 AM from the Funeral Home followed by a Funeral Mass in St. John the Baptist Church, 16 Church St,., Peabody at 9:00 AM. Burial will be in PuritanLawnMemorial Park, West Peabody. Expressions of sympathy may be made to Discalced Carmelite Nuns, 15 Mt.
