Obituary of John C. Horrigan, Jr

John C. Horrigan, Jr., 83 of Peabody, died Monday evening at the Blueberry Hill Nursing Home in Beverly following a long illness. Born in Peabody, he was the son of the late John C. Horrigan Sr and Mary (Murray) Horrigan. He was a lifelong resident of Peabody and a graduate of Peabody High School, class of 1948. After high school, John enlisted with the United States Army and served in Germany during the Korean War. After the war, he was employed with the city of Peabody School Department as a custodian for 30 years before he retired. John was a member of the Knights of Columbus in both Salem and Peabody and was also a lifetime and Honor Guard member of the VFW Post 1011 in Peabody. He was a Eucharistic Minister at St. John’sChurch in Peabody, enjoyed swimming at the YMCA in Salem, and held a black belt Tai-Kwan-Do. He also was an adult leader of the Boy Scouts of America at the Knights of Columbus and at St. Vasilios Church. John is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Joseph and Shirley Horrigan of Peabody and was “Uncle Jackie” to his nieces and nephews, Richard, Kevin, Peter, and Brian Horrigan and Colleen Robinson and Erin Maribito. His Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday at 11:00 AM at St. John’sChurch, Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be prior to the service from 9:00 until 10:30 AM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem.
