Obituary of Robert F. Buckley

LYNNFIELD-Robert F. Buckley, 78, of Doncaster Circle, Lynnfield and formerly of Peabody, beloved husband of Gladys (Pollock) Buckley of Lynnfield, died Thursday evening at the Ledgewood Nursing Home in Beverly following a long illness. Born in Peabody, he was the son of the late Francis and Mabel (Griffin) Buckley. He attended Peabody schools, and graduated from Peabody High School, Class of 1940. He went on to study at Tufts University in Medford, Class of 1944 where he was a member of Zeta Psi. He lived in Lynnfield for the last 37 years. Mr. Buckley worked for 40 years with General Electric in the Instrument Panel Division, and served as a Manager at G.E. in Marketing and Finance. He facilitated the sale of the division to the Yokagawa Corp in 1984 before his retirement. He was a veteran of World War II, with service as a Junior Lieutenant in the United States Naval Reserve on the LST 140 patrolling the Mediterranean Sea. He was a member of the Elfin Society at GE, was active at St. Ann’ s Church in South Peabody and was a member of the St. Vincent De Paul Society, for many years. He was also a past Chairman of the Lynnfield Finance Committee and the Lynnfield Planning Board, and was a member of the Lynnfield Couples Club. He is survived by: his wife, Gladys I. (Pollock) Buckley, of Lynnfield; one son and daughter-in-law, Philip & Rose Buckley of Quincy; four daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara & Ernest Abel of Michigan, Maureen & David Carroll and Joyce & Victor Gagnon, both of Georgetown, and Susan & Thomas Bourdon of Lynnfield; eight grandchildren, Jason Abel of NYC, Rebecca Abel of Watertown, Sarah Gagnon of Georgetown, Abigail Gagnon of Georgetown, David Carroll of Georgetown, Robert Carroll of Georgetown, Holly Bourdon of Lynnfield, and Zhenya Buckley of Quincy; one sister, Janet Ring of Peabody, and a sister-in-law, Dorothy Buckley of Peabody, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Raymond Buckley. His funeral will be held on Tuesday at 8 AM from the Conway facility at 12 Chestnut St. of the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, Peabody, followed by a Funeral Mass at 9 AM in St. John’ s Church, Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. A visitation will be held on Monday from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 PM. Burial will be in Willow Cemetery, Lynnfield. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of the North Shore, 10 Elm St., Danvers, MA 01923.
