Gerald T. Carey
PEABODY—Gerald T. Carey, 79, died peacefully on Sunday evening June 9, 2013 at the Lahey Hospital in Burlington, following an extended illness.
Born in Peabody, he was the son of the late John and Mary (Cummings) Carey. He was a lifelong resident of the city. He graduated Peabody High School, Class of 1951, and then graduated from Northeastern University with a degree in engineering and eventually a Master in Business Administration (MBA) from Northeastern.
Mr. Carey was an Engineer with Whitman & Howard, Inc. of Wellesley where he enjoyed a career until retiring 17 years ago.
Gerald enjoyed living in Peabody and was active in the city. He served on the Planning Board with the City of Peabody for many years. He was a perpetual member of the PHS Reunion Committee, and was passionate that he was engaged and maintained his lifelong friends. He was inducted into the Peabody Hall of Fame for his career achievements. He was a brilliant mathematician, an avid fan of the Boston sports teams, enjoyed horse racing and dog racing, will be remembered for his good mind, and will be dearly missed by those who knew him.
He is survived by a daughter Maria Carey and son John Carey; two brothers John Carey and Larry Carey; and a special companion friend Cathy “Ginny” Aylward.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to gather on Wednesday June 12, 2013 for his Graveside Funeral Service at 11:30 A.M. in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody. Funeral planned with Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, Peabody.
