Samuel Spalding Hutchinson
MIDDLETON—Samuel Spalding Hutchinson, 78, of Middleton and formerly of Peabody, returned home to God on Tuesday June 18, 2013 and is now embraced by Our Lord Jesus Christ. He was the beloved, devoted and cherished husband of Althea Meadows Hutchinson of Middleton with whom he shared 44 years of marriage.
Born in Salem on March 21, 1935, he was the son of the late Nancy Spalding Hutchinson and the late William F. Hutchinson. He was raised and educated in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, where he graduated from high school at Christ School in Arden, NC. He then graduated with a bachelor degree from University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.
Sam was an avid sports fan and especially loved college sports. Of course he always routed for his beloved UNC Tar Heels. His hobbies included swimming, skiing, and tennis. He was a longtime member of the Church of the Holy Name in Swampscott.
He was a retiree of Boston Mutual Life Insurance Company and General Electric of Lynn.
In addition to his devoted wife Althea of Middleton, he is survived by his beloved brother Richard Hutchinson of NC, & his late wife Lynn, along with their children and grandchildren as nieces and nephews; his mother-in-law, Regina Meadows Peabody; his sister-in-law Alfreda Maynard of Lynn, & her late husband Donald, along with their children & grandchildren as nieces and nephews; brother-in-law of Carol & George Mear of North Andover with their children & grandchildren as nieces & nephews and Michael & Joanne Meadows of Lynn and their daughter. He was preceded in death, besides his parents, by a brother William F. Hutchinson, and father-in-law Alfred Meadows.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to gather on Saturday June 22, 2013 at 10 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, followed by a Funeral Service at 11 AM in The Church of the Holy Name, 60 Monument Ave, Swampscott. A visitation will be held on Friday from 4 – 8 P.M. in the funeral home. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Lynn.
