Obituary of Ronald J. Donahue
Ronald J. Donahue, 82, of Peabody, formerly of Bradford, husband of the late Margaret Elizabeth “Peg” (Cavan) Donahue with whom he shared 49 years of marriage, died on Wednesday, July 10, 2013 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers.
Mr. Donahue was born in Malden, on January 20, 1931, son of the late Bernard and Adeline (MacNeil) Donahue. He was raised in Winchester and Georgetown, and graduated from St. James High School of Haverhill Class of 1949. He then pursued his education at Northeastern University where he received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting in 1956.
Ron was employed for 35 years as an accountant at Western Electric and AT & T prior to his retirement in 1990. Ron was a loving father who devoted his life to creating a home for his family and enthusiastically supported and encouraged his children and grandchildren during their sport activities. In 2001, he moved to Brooksby Village and he became involved in all aspects of their vibrant community. Being fond of woodworking, he founded the woodworking shop at Brooksby which he served as President until April. Ron and Peg were also both avid bridge and cribbage card players. He also enjoyed summering with family and friends in the Seabrook area.
Ron is survived by his children, Louise M. Donahue of Ashland, John M. Donahue and his wife Gina of Marlborough; 3 grandchildren, Elizabeth R. Donahue, Brian M. Donahue and John J. Donahue all of Marlborough; a brother, Daniel Donahue of North Hampton, NH; 2 sisters, Marie Mueller of Stoneham and Ramona Donahue of Topsfield, and many nieces, nephews and numerous friends. He was predeceased by his siblings, Frances Cusack, Bernard, Bradford, Richard, Francis and Robert Donahue.
Ron’s family will receive family and friends on Sunday, July 14, 2013 from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody. His Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, July 15, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at the Brooksby Village Chapel, 300 Brooksby Village Dr., Peabody. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Burial will be held on Monday at 2:15 p.m. in Elmwood Cemetery, 96 Salem St., Bradford. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made in Ron’s memory to Hospice of the North Shore, 75 Sylvan St., Suite B-102, Danvers, MA 01923 or to the Brooksby Village Benevolent Fund, 300 Brooksby Village Drive, Peabody, MA 01960.
