Frederick J. King, 74
NEWTON, NH—Frederick Joseph King, 74, of Newton, NH and formerly of Peabody, husband and best friend of Joyce (Dempsey) King with whom he celebrated 50 years of marriage, passed away peacefully after a long and courageous battle with cancer on Friday July 12, 2013, at the Merrimack Valley Hospital in Haverhill.
Born in Peabody, he was the son of the late Frederick and Charlotte (McDonald) King. After attending schools in Peabody and Salem, he spent most of his life residing in Salem and Wakefield, before moving to Newton, NH.
Fred was employed for many years at the Hawthorne Tannery, the MetroSwift Sprinkler Company, and Osram Sylvania Company.
He spent many years as a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernian Club/A.O.H. Division 18 of Salem. In addition to enjoying fishing, boating, and driving his golf cart, he loved to dance and sing at any opportunity, especially with his co-workers. In nice weather he would be found out on his pontoon boat on Baxter Lake where he had his Summer camp at BLRAA. His hugs and great company will be missed by all his family, whom he cherished dearly along with his many, many friends and acquaintances who had the privilege of being touched by his big heart.
Fred is survived by his wife Joyce (Dempsey) King of Newton, NH; two sons, Frederick P. King & his wife Kristen M. King of Dover, NH and Gary D. King & his wife Renee M. King of Newton, NH; four grandsons to carry on his good name, Jonathan, Zachary, Nathaniel, and Joshua; five brothers, William King of Amesbury, Arthur King, Donald King, Ronald King, and Allen King all of Salem; a sister Elizabeth Retchetnuk of Peabody, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death, besides his parents, by a daughter Pamela A. King, his brothers Edward Hutchinson and George King, and a nephew George King.
